In 2002, Luis received two recognitions during the 3rd International Convention of Bonsai "From the seed to the Forest" to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the SCB. First, Pedro Morales awarded one of his plants as the best in the exhibition. The winning bonsai was an Acacia macracantha in the Informal upright style (Moyogi). Second, his teacher Milagros Rauber gave to him the Prize of Excellence in recognition to the design for all his plants presented during the exhibition.

Luis has written two bonsai booklets entitled: "Bonsai, Surface of the Soil" and "Bonsai with Nursery Plants." He also created the illustrations for Pedro J. Morales's book entitled "Basic Lessons of Bonsai." Luis has been asked to create the illustrations for Pedro's second book that will cover more advanced bonsai topics.
