MARION GYLLENSWAN:
FROM A PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW
By Nancy Mack
Marion Gyllenswan was a well-known and well-liked lady throughout
the bonsai community. She was a loyal supporter of our New
Haven Bonsai Society in Connecticut and taught us well. She
studied with Yuji Yoshimura for many years and shared her
knowledge with us. As an honorary member of our club, she
became the “backbone” of our society.
Our close friendship lasted 30 years. I was fortunate to
have studied privately with Marion for 25 of those years.
Three generations of my family have adored her. My grandchildren
called her Grandma Marion. She possessed a kind of nature
always willing to help anyone who needed her. Throughout the
years I have never heard anything but kind words to describe
her.
Marion was always devoted to bonsai. Adept at a variety of
techniques, Marion was skilled at producing grass plantings,
tray plantings, bonsai on rock or clinging to rock, and more.
Her creations were superb, inspiring not only all of our members,
but bonsai enthusiasts throughout the country.
Marion will be sorely missed and remembered in all of our
hearts for the wonderful human being she was.
