NABF Newsletter #10

Feature #1

President's Message

by Felix Laughlin

Welcome to the 10th issue of the NABF Newsletter.  This issue focuses on both the South-Central Region of North America and the upcoming 5th World Bonsai Convention.  I thank Mary Bloomer, Editor of the South Central Region, for her efforts in putting this issue together; Linda Brant, Frank Thomas, Roger Case, Jack Sustic, Cheryl Manning and Chuck Croft for their contributions to this issue; and Andy Rutledge, Peter Bloomer and Olin Robie for providing images of South Central bonsai.

5th WBC REGISTRATION IS STRONG

As you may know, NABF is the host of the 5th WBC, and I would like to thank all of you who have already registered to attend the 5th WBC. As of today, we have over 500 registrants, and we still have a couple of months to go until the convention.  As explained in Feature # 5 by Jack Sustic, Co-Chair of the 5th WBC, a lot of folks have been working hard to bring the bonsai world the best convention yet.  Through your participation, this grand event is sure to be a success, and it will provide you with a lifetime of memories.

EXHIBIT YOUR BONSAI, VIEWING STONES OR CONTAINERS AT THE 5TH WBC -- MARCH 15 DEADLINE

Don't miss this opportunity to exhibit your bonsai, viewing stones or containers.  Through these Exhibits, we have the opportunity to bring joy to the large numbers of registrants and visitors who will be attracted to the 5th WBC.  The Exhibits will be professionally photographed for inclusion in the 5th WBC post-convention publication.

The quality of these Exhibits depends on you, me and anyone you know who may have a quality tree, stone or container.  The deadline for submission is March 15.  For more information on the Exhibits, log onto www.bonsai-wbff.org/wbc5/main.htm or call (202) 245-4529 to receive information by mail.

CONSIDER JOINING THE BNK ALLIANCE

Please consider supporting the 5th WBC by joining the Bonsai No Kokoro (Spirit of Bonsai) Alliance.  The members of the BNK Alliance are those who give $1,000 or more to the 5th WBC so that this world convention can offer the spirit of bonsai to as many people around the globe as possible.  The Honor Roll showing the current list of members of the BNK Alliance is published on the 5th WBC website at: www.bonsai-wbff.org/nabf/newsletter7/honorroll.pdf .

During the 5th WBC, members of the BNK Alliance not only will see the fruits of their generosity but also will receive a special gift and be recognized as members of the Alliance.  Additionally, your contribution will be tax deductible for U.S. federal income tax purposes as provided by law.  To join the BNK Alliance, please make your check out to NABF for $1,000 or more and mail it to:
